We are finally starting on the roof! WOOP! WOOP!
The first thing is to build the gable ends. In order to build them in place on the the wall we had to figure the height of the ridge beam which will be 99 inches above the last course of logs. That may not sound high…but when your that far off the ground nailing wood it it VERY high!
The ridge beam is 12″ thick..what a monster! The gable ends are built with 2×4’s set on 16 inch centers. Because we are going to use log siding above the 14th course of logs the gable ends will be covered with plywood
The gable ends are finished so now on to the hardest part and probably the most critical part of this log home building process. Setting the ridge beam..UGH!
